How We Can Help

How Can Counselling or Psychotherapy Help You?

A GHCMC Counsellor/Psychotherapist’s aim is to help you gain a new perspective about whatever is troubling you. Clients often seek counselling when in a state of crisis, or experiencing a low point of existence such as being in possession of a poor self concept, or poor self care. They are often in extreme emotional, psychological or physical pain, with concerns about stability, self-protection or personal preservation due to a fragile sense of self. The focus of counselling and therapy is helping you, the client, to handle the crisis and survive internal or external conflict. Together we identify what might be stopping you from reaching your full potential as an empowered individual and what action you need to take to improve your situation.

As your GHCMC counsellor is a professionally trained and qualified therapist, it is our contractual obligation to also look beyond those presenting problems of possible underlying causes that are not always made evident to you. The aim of the therapeutic process then is to help you understand and accept yourself to change any unsuitable behavioural patterns to behaviours that are more beneficially advantageous for you. Our aim is to also help you move towards becoming the kind of self determined person you desire to be.

Many of GHCMC clients can be helped with only a few consultations. Some issues may require more long-term assistance. This timeframe will depend on the nature of the your presenting situation and sense of self. Your counsellor will discuss with you at the time of your first consultation how many sessions will be necessary to effectively deal with those problematic concerns that may be worry you.
